Three things
1. Are we supposed to know what the crosshairs were in house?
2. Does the snail have a hole cause i couldn’t find it.
3. The weird floppy hair backflip thing that you changed happens when you do a backflip off a wall, too.
3 things.
1. the demo is absolutely AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I COULDN’T POSSIBLY LOVE IT MORE.
2. it doesn’t work on google chrome. or at least, i couldn’t get it to. works on firefox and ie, though.
3. just out of curiosity, wut is the highest score you can get?
Hm, I’ll have to look through that, it’s probably pulling an undefined variable from a move that doesn’t exist, but I haven’t been able to replicate it. If you can reproduce it consistently, shoot me an email.
Very Nice. I really liked the demo, it was pretty cool. It felt great to be able to play as the improved FPM without the confines of the header box. I have a few minor issues though
1) When the building cut out faded away, the framerate dropped slightly. It wasn’t anything major, it just got annoying occasionally.
2) In the yellow squiggle timed bit the red platform furthest to the right wouldn’t be detected by FPM. It might be a glitch, or it could just be an issue with that particular platforms hitBox, but it got annoying in a timed sequence.
3) The water controls don’t feel, I dunno.. right. I’d often get frustrated at how flunky they are. A lot of the time I’d end up scraping the ceiling and the floor as I swam along. I suggest that when you hold a left or right key, FPM should keep rotating around, and when pressing up it would propel you in the direction you are facing. And holding s would make you rise to the surface no matter what.
Also, I got the NaN glitch as well.
But it was amazing playing that demo, despite the few things that need to be ironed out
I changed the physics at the last moment so there’s still a few bugs in it. Consider the collision in beta. I’ll be cleaning it up, though. Those two problems shouldn’t be too difficult to fix, the wall fading out was actually fixed, but I lost a bunch of changes right before upload, forgot to patch a few back up.
But, on most surfaces, the bounce of the shell should be much better, especially the subtleties, compare it to the W2 shell, or for teh lulz, the W2 demo shell ๐
But i got a question…
In the water cave, if you slide backwards on the water and you make back-flips all the time, you even can get to the other edge…
Is this a bug?
Did you didn’t mind it?
or is it just a cool trick?
You probably know this already but sometimes the snailshell bounce sound gets looped when it’s off screen.
Between the dark green and lighter green building in Squiggleville:
If you drop from above and slide to the right (high speed) you sometimes seem to get sorta stuck in the light green building for a sec, then teleport upwards hanging on the ledge.
@Brad I’m in the middle of playing the demo, (i was thrilled when i heard and i am lovin’ it!!!) Uh.. it’s paused right now cuz i’ve got a quick question, is fancypants meant to be this slow because it’s like he’s in slow mo when i’m playing, it’s a bit annoying.
is there anyway to fix this because i have a feeling it’s not meant to be like this.
The game plays very, very well. I noticed that FPM himself is quicker and the transitions are a whole lot smoother. The wall run and backflip animations look amazing too. I also liked the soundtrack so far, each area had its own little song that fit it really well. Very good work, keep it up.
Thank you so much Brad!!!!!!!! This is a MILLION times better then I ever imagined the demo would be (based on the World 2 demo, even though I wasn’t following this blog until just AFTER World 2 was released)!!!!!! And you actually let us play with the swimming level!!!!! *almost faints with excitement* This was just like an early Christmas present (or belated Hanukkah present, since I’m Jewish!)!!! *bows down and worships Brad’s creative genius*
OMG!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!! MINFIG3D!!!!!!!!! YOUR THE BEST PERSON WHOO!!!!!! I FINALLY CAN PLAY ON CHROME!!!!….. plus chrome is much less lagg free zone thingo soo TTHHAANNKKYYOOUU!!!
A few thoughts:
1. Awesome! Like Christmas come early.
2. Just a few fairly minor things. a) The controls feel just a little slippery. The movement feels good but sometimes it doesn’t feel like you have 100% control over Fancy Pants Man. b) At one point the snail shell got lost somewhere, and it kept on playing the hit sound for it, and I couldn’t find it to dislodge it and stop the noise. c) FPM functions a little bit differently from the header (most noticeably with the wall climbing). Thats probably on purpose, maybe as a result of it being the console version demo, but I just figured I’d say it. And d) when you’re in the houses/building, the game lags a bit.
Like I said though, fairly minor. Overall, its great! (The new yellow squiggles are nice) It looks sweet, can’t wait to play it. Thanks again for getting this out!
Very cool, indeed. It runs unplayably slow in firefox for linux, but on Windows 7 it’s cool, for me.
There are a total of 4 levels in the preview, right?
(Squiggleville, Mom’s basement, Springy hills and Wate cave)
@Brad: I think you should definitely add a rotation animation for when FPM transitions from swimming facing up to facing down. Other than that, truly an outstanding job. ๐
In regards to the demo. Its a smooth ride as far as alphas go…or would you say beta? hmm. Anyway, FPM is faster, smoother, jumpier and more fliptastic than ever. Kudos for that.
Plus, the music is definitely one of my favourite improvements. The underground lake music in particular, very….jazz/upbeat/awesome.
Also in regards to the Lake. The swimming animations for the most part are superb. Fancy pants is fancy, though a bit slow (but who can blame him, those pants are pretty baggy). And I think this has been mentioned before, but the turn animation from when he is swimming upside-down to right-side up is… missing. And the transfer between wall-grab – Jump – Wall-grab is a bit clunky.
BUT, the water entry animations are awesome! It was one of those “Holy crap, that was awesome” moments. Its so awesome that I feel bad even nit-picking because you go that extra mile to put in awesome stuff like that.
On a side note, because I missed the whole EA/Xbox marketplace convo, let me just say, CONGRATULATIONS! Now you have the material to take this concept to a larger audience! That’s awesome! I mean, if you just add on to this little demo for a year, like you did with the demo for W2, and concentrate on the money machine, hey, thats ok with me. And it should be with everyone, because in the end we get a better game overall!
Again, this demo is an awesome Xmas present, an awesome display of what I’ve been coming to this site for the past…well, long time for, as well as a great precursor to your new endeavour!
@wingdemon He doesn’t get any faster when I change the when I put it on low quality. I’m going to try and use firefox or something, but I have a feeling it won’t work…. ugh, this is getting annoying! HELP ME BRAD!
Thanks for all the help wingdemon, they are good suggestions but sadly they just aren’t working for me. ๐
Brad, whenever I go to the fancypantsadventures.com website and when I click on “Play The Fancy Pants Adventures, sneak peak!” it never does anthing, it doesn’t matter what I do, it never brings me to the place where I can play it. The only way I’ve been able to play it is by clicking on the link that minifig3D shared on this site but as I’ve already told you that doesn’t work because it unplayabley slow and the camera is shaky and choppy.
Sorry for the triple comment but it’s not letting me edit.
In the background of Squiggleville, there are those coins and doors. It is an extra level you can play when you come to the door. When I collected the coins in this level, the coins in the background of Squiggleville disapperared.
hmm… im POSITIVE i posted a comment just a few minutes ago, but now i dont see it. very strange.
THE GAME IS AWESOME!!! is this for fpa or w3? i forgot. ๐
HGJKFGJFGJHFTYJFGHMJJHDULHCULGYSTYEKVHXL!!!!!!!
the way the camera moves is very disorientating, it’s quite irritating actually. i don’t know if anyone else has found this…?
but yeah, it worked fine for me, no lagging.
@miaow: im not sure, can you give me “directions” from squiggleville, or like the small video someone did (sorry, forgot who you were) to the springy hills? thanks!
First! And it’s EPIC!!!
Brad im sorry to tell you but…. the demo on my computer dosent work please fix it ๐
@Adomenatoon: What’s wrong? Make sure you have the latest version of Flash.
Kudos on making such a fun game, Brad! Cannot wait ’til it comes out!
That… was… AWESOME!!
It looks an awful lot like World 3 though…
THIS IS AMAZING!!!!! Really, that was awesome.

2. Does the snail have a hole cause i couldn’t find it.
3. The weird floppy hair backflip thing that you changed happens when you do a backflip off a wall, too.
We’ve only announced ps3 and 360 so far in any region. I think we’ll have to see how the game sells before talking about any other platforms.

BRad my demo only works on internet explorer but it dosent work on google chrome
@Adomenatoon: I don’t know, works fine for me in Chrome on OS X…
the demo was awesome but a question is the pencil weapon going to be a secret item
BRAD, IM IN LOVE !
To tell you the truth, I decided to ask for an xbox for christmas just because I found out FPA was coming out on it.
The game run incredibly smoothly compared to the other games on my macintosh, if you were wondering.
I’ve been waiting literately years for this. Thank you sir, you are my hero.

But Brad! Thankyou SO much for this man! We’ve all been waiting so long! It’s finally here!

OMG!! brad, you are AWESOME. I have not gone to fpa.com yet but i’m going to after finishing this comment!
Played it last night and it was awesome.
http://www.fancypantsadventures.com/flash/FPAW3Demo.swf
Works great in both google chrome and firefox on windows 7 64-bit.
I love the level you can see in the background too!
The game is in one word:
AWESOME!!!
But i got a question…

Besides those, amazing game.
If you kick the snail while its night next to the red building, it glitches and goes through it.
Still awesome, though.
the swimming was a tad (VERY MUCH SO) bit slow.
@Brad: Link to forum post about some bugs I found
Because I can’t be asked to copy+paste. I also noticed the bug Nyubis had.

i didn’t have enough time to read the beginning part. slow reader.

How do you get to that level in the background?? I found the door but I can’t reach the platform!
**glitch found** if you go into the blue house from underneath you can’t see inside.
@Klimtkiller, thats been reported already captain…..
the way the camera moves is very disorientating, it’s quite irritating actually. i don’t know if anyone else has found this…?

woot i found springy hills ๐
I so happy

Pretty neat demo… but the jump key is a bit unresponsive. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
